Pima County supervisors are trying to figure out how to fund affordable housing projects for the upcoming years.
Earlier this year, county supervisors asked county staff to look at options for securing at least $10 million a year starting in 2026 to fund affordable housing development and preservation.
In a memo to supervisors this month, county administrator Jan Lesher says staff has reviewed housing research and spoken with its financial departments and the Pima County Attorney’s Office to come up with a list of options for where to get the money.
Those options include things like shifting existing budget funds, implementing a general sales tax for county residents and visitors, raising property taxes or getting funding through bonds. The memo lays out the pros and cons of each of those avenues, and supervisors are set to discuss plans at their meeting this week.
