The Federal Highway Administration announced a $27.5 million grant for an interchange highway project in Apache County.

The money will be used to replace four concrete bridges that were first constructed in 1963 on a stretch of Interstate 40 near Window Rock that is critical to the Navajo Nation. Those outdated bridges no longer meet current design standards.

The funds come through the bridge investment program of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. And the projects are part of an overall $635 million investment in 22 small bridge projects across 19 states.
