The Navajo Nation plans to open a gaming facility on property it owns just northeast of Flagstaff.

Navajo President Buu Nygren signed a deed recently that places land along U.S. Highway 89 into trust for the tribe.

Nygren said the tribe will partner with the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise, which already operates four casinos in the Southwest. The partnership plans to build a new gaming facility in the area that he said will create 100 new jobs.

Nygren said the tribe will earn rent from the gaming facility and that money will go toward the Diné Relocatee Fund, created 50 years ago to help 12,000 Navajos displaced by the Hopi Land Settlement.
