In a late night social media post, President-elect Donald Trump announced former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott would lead Customs and Border Protection come January.
Scott served as Border Patrol chief under Trump and briefly under Biden. According to reporting from the Washington Examiner, Scott resigned from the post in mid-2021 after coming out against a Biden administration directive to end the agency’s use of the term “illegal alien.”
Trump says during his tenure, Scott implemented policies like Title 42, which blocked asylum seekers from entering the U.S. on public health grounds, despite U.S. asylum law.
Trump also announced Caleb Vitello would leave his current post as assistant director of ICE’s Office of Firearms and Tactical Programs to become the acting director of ICE.
Both are expected to work closely with Stephen Miller and other figures to enact Trump’s deportation plans.
