Bird flu is being detected throughout Arizona.

The first of the novel influenza virus cases in humans were detected earlier this week in two people working with infected poultry at a commercial site in Pinal County. Health officials said both reported mild symptoms and have recovered.

On Wednesday, Coconino County officials reported the flu had been detected in wastewater sampling. Those are suspected to stem from chickens and wild birds but other sources haven’t been ruled out.

In Maricopa County, officials said the flu virus was detected in animals that are part of a zoo collection in Litchfield Park. They said risk to the public or to zoo visitors is low.
