Mexican authorities seized more than $7 million worth of illegally imported goods from three stores in Sonora on Thursday.
Mexico’s economy secretary has dubbed the nationwide effort to wipe out contraband goods Operación Limpieza, or Operation Cleanup.
Authorities say they confiscated more than 1 million items in Sonora’s capital, Hermosillo, including vapes, toys and textiles that they say were illegally imported from other countries.
All three stores that were raided are known as “tiendas chinas,” or Chinese stores, locally.
Sonora Gov. Alfonso Durazo spoke at a press conference with the economy secretary and said “the objective of the operation is the guarantee that products sold in the state capital are legal.”
