Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren wants his own chief of staff to serve as the tribe’s new attorney general. The move comes after AG Ethel Branch was ousted earlier this week.

Kris Beecher will serve as deputy attorney general until he’s approved by the Navajo Nation Council.

But that council has pushed back against Nygren. This week, it ousted Branch, who was removed just hours after a preliminary investigation she organized cleared the president of sexually harassing the vice president.

Nygren used words like disappointing and unprecedented to describe her removal.

After the 13-6 council vote in favor of her ouster, Branch posted a TikTok video lambasting the council and calling out one member.

KJZZ News has reached out to Branch for an interview but so far has not received a response.
