IHOP is closing its location in the capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, citing security concerns.

In a statement on social media, IHOP said it’s closing its Culiacán location for the safety of staff and customers. The city has spent months suffering from violence between warring cartel factions.

The fighting has blocked roadways, closed schools and left hundreds dead.

The violence stems from fighting between the two main factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, each vying for control of one of the country’s most influential drug trafficking operations after the September arrest of one of its leaders.

The closure of the IHOP location marks a major international chain leaving the city because of the violence. The Culiacán IHOP said in its statement it hopes the situation improves and it can reopen in the future.
