A major food center supporting families in northern Arizona suspended operations at its Winslow location as strong winds batter the high country.
Flagstaff Family Food Center isn’t just facing 55 mile an hour winds. It’s also facing a shortage of volunteers.
Vice president Ceara Chirovsky says powerful winds threatened to overturn the center’s trucks on Interstate 40 but also a lack of volunteers.
"To serve 300 households in the timeframe that we are allotted, we need 15 volunteers and consistently, we have been unable to achieve that number," she said.
The center provides food the second Thursday of every month for two hours at the Winslow Indian Health Care Center.
"We are honored to serve the Winslow community. We are going to be rescheduling this distribution for next week," she said.
