Officials in Mexico are gearing up in case mass deportations in the United States send large numbers of Mexican nationals back across the border to their home country.

President Donald Trump’s promise of mass deportations could affect the estimated millions of Mexicans living in the U.S. without documentation.

Mexico’s plan for their possible return involves giving deportees financial support to go back to their hometowns and making sure they’re able to enroll in social services.

Mexico Cabinet member Rosa Icela Rodríguez said her country welcomes its citizens back.

“These are women and men who work hard every day to improve conditions for their families,” Icela Rodríguez said.

Mexicans in the U.S. send billions of dollars back to Mexico every year in the form of remittances.
