A prescribed burn consumes part of the forest floor at Kaibab National Forest on Oct. 5, 2023.

The Forest Service in northern Arizona suspended a prescribed burn southwest of the city due to strong winds in the area.

Morning gusts topped 45 miles an hour across Flagstaff.

Officials started a 1,700-acre burn Wednesday. They said it’s expected to resume Friday if the winds die down.

According to the National Weather Service, a weather system that could potentially bring rain to the Valley and snow to the high country is predicted to hit Arizona on Sunday.
