A national hotline for immigrants worried about immigration crackdowns is relaunching to respond to ramped up enforcement under the new Trump administration.
Pedro Trujillo, director of organizing for the LA-based Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, says his group has a local rapid response network that’s activated whenever there’s ICE enforcement activity reported at workplaces, businesses or other sites.
Their national hotline has been around since about 2006 and gets brought back into commission whenever increased immigration enforcement is taking place.
“They can call the hotline and ask for their local rapid response network, or their local immigrant rights organization and there are hotline specialists who can connect them to that line so they’re able to get the support that they need,” he said.
Trujillo says that network includes organizations like Promise Arizona, or PAZ, a rights group in Phoenix. He says local teams can connect with family members of those impacted by crackdowns and help with legal support, rights monitoring and other issues. Networks are staffed with attorneys, legal observers, educators and others.
The group’s national assistance hotline is 888-624-4752.
