Mexico says its citizens who are deported from the United States won’t be sent to Guantánamo Bay, the notorious Cuban site that was used as a military prison after 9/11.

President Donald Trump plans to use the naval base in Guantánamo as a detention facility for migrants deported from the U.S. and says that it can hold tens of thousands of people.

But Mexico’s foreign affairs secretary, Juan Ramon de la Fuente, told reporters that Mexicans who are deported from the U.S. will not be sent to Guantánamo.

“No Mexican is going to go there under any circumstances,” de la Fuente said in a clip recorded by Mexican news outlet Radio Formula.

He said the Mexican government sent a diplomatic letter to the U.S. Embassy insisting that all Mexicans be deported directly back to their home country.

Mexico has its own plan in place to receive Mexican nationals who are deported, including shelters at the border specifically set aside for them.
