Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her entire security cabinet would be in Washington, D.C., for talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Sheinbaum said during her daily morning press conference that her administration is working with the United States to “find an agreement to coordinate within the framework of our sovereignty.”

The meeting comes as President Trump wields the threat of a 25% tariff on all goods from Mexico and Canada unless the two countries do more to comply with the U.S.’s border security goals.

In a move that would initially delay tariffs for a month, Sheinbaum increased the number of Mexican National Guard troops at the border. That deadline is supposed to be coming up next week, and Sheinbaum says her government continues its dialogue with the Trump administration.

The tariff would be a blow to Mexico’s export-heavy economy and likely increase prices in the United States.
