Construction on three new dams in Hermosillo will start this summer, as part of the Sonoran capital’s 30-year water infrastructure plan.
The head of Mexico’s water commission, Efraín Morales, said the project to build a system of new dams in Hermosillo will start with an investment of around $25 million this year. Construction is set to start in July on the project that Morales said will benefit nearly 900,00 people in Hermosillo.
The project is part of Sonora’s Plan Hídrico, a 30-year roadmap for the future of water infrastructure in the desert state.
Supplies of groundwater and surface water are largely decreasing in Sonora, which is contending with how to get water to residents and farms in the face of climate change.
