Navajo officials blast Trump administration after Code Talkers' legacy removed from military websites

DoD Code-Talkers website has been removed and replaced with a 404 error page

Department of Defense Code Talkers website has been removed and replaced with a 404 error page.
Navajo tribal officials say the Trump administration has rescinded its removal of the online legacy of the highly decorated Code Talkers.

Navajo tribal officials say the U.S. government has backed off plans to eliminate the Navajo Code Talkers from its websites.

The Department of Defense drew the ire of the tribe after it eliminated the famed Code Talkers from military web pages. The Navajo Nation council condemned the U.S. government’s move and its underlying purpose, saying that the Navajo is a political entity ground in treaties with the United States not in racial categorization.

“The Navajo Nation Council is deeply concerned by being conflated into DEI initiatives that fail to recognize our unique political status,” said Speaker Crystalyne Curley.

Navajo President Buu Nygren says the DOD has agreed to restore the content to its military websites.

As of Tuesday however, the DOD website still shows a 404 error page where it used to share the story of the highly decorated soldiers. And the URL has been altered to DEI-code talkers.
