Hermosillo wetland restoration project and children’s park opens to visitors

Sistema DIF Sonora

Sonora Gov. Alfonso Durazo led a ceremony over the weekend to celebrate the reopening of the children’s park and restoration of the nearby urban wetland, an important step in the conservation of the area.

Residents have for years called for the city of Hermosillo to restore the urban park, which was once a popular destination for families. Up until this weekend, however, the children’s park had been in disuse for around a decade.

The first step of the restoration project is now complete, and the La Sauceda urban forest is officially open to visitors.

In addition to restoration on the wetland and urban forest area, the city also restored the recreation part of the park, which now features food trucks, go-carts and batting cages.
