Sedona, Arizona.

Sedona’s City Council just voted to expand the size of the small, landlocked city by nearly a third.

The city had been moving toward annexing a 5-square-mile plot of land on its west side since late last year.

On Tuesday, the City Council adopted the ordinance.

It will fold in a wastewater treatment plant and an undeveloped segment of land called the Dells.

City attorney Kurt Christianson said visitors will soon see the shift.

"It’s a little bit strange but we’ll probably move the city limits sign that you come into down by lower red rock loop road we’ll probably move it and or duplicate it and put another one on 89A right by the city wastewater treatment plant letting people know that you’re entering into the city limits earlier than it is now," he told the council.

The city will officially annex the 3,422 acres of land by the end of April.
