Tucson is one of a handful of southern Arizona sites where the weather is forecast to break heat records Thursday and into the weekend.
The National Weather Service shows Tucson could hit 100 degrees on Friday, blasting through a record 99 degrees on the same day in 2023.
Further south, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and the town of Ajo nearby are both expected to hit 102 degrees. The sites hit a record 99 and 100 degrees respectively in 2023.
Both Wilcox and Tombstone are set to see a high of 94 on Friday, breaking through a record 91 in 1946 and 2018.
In metro Phoenix, breaking the triple digit mark could come as early as Thursday.
"It is very likely at Sky Harbor Harbor, 100 degrees will occur again on Friday and possible again on Saturday. And these would also be records for the date," said Mark O’Malley with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
