A group of immigration judges fired during a mass layoff campaign initiated by DOGE in February is suing the Trump administration.

In a lawsuit originally filed in March and amended this month, the judges say the Department of Justice broke the law by summarily firing a cohort of immigration judges newly appointed to the bench last December.

Thirteen immigration judges were laid off on Feb. 14 by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. The suit argues the fired judges went through an extensive application and training process. They say their terminations were not merit-based but instead part of an effort to conduct a de facto reduction in force effort, without following established regulations.

They’re asking for their jobs to be restored, compensation for legal fees, and other remedies.
