Residents of a major northern Mexico city have a diverse list of environmental concerns, according to a new study.

The study asked Hermosillo residents about the main environmental problems facing their city.

Around two-thirds of respondents said trash on the street and vacant lots were their biggest concern. The second-most common concern in the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora was water shortage and waste.

Much like Arizona, the region south of the Mexico-Arizona border is also experiencing a years-long drought, which has put Hermosillo’s water supply at risk.

Residents were also concerned about the lack of trees and green spaces in their city — the study found that was the number three concern. Experts say green spaces can help cities feel more cool when temperatures climb.
