The new U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, has officially arrived at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
He met with Mexico’s president Monday, during a time of economic and security uncertainty between the two countries.
Johnson said on social media that the conversation between him and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was “warm.”

In a press conference, Sheinbaum said the two talked about security, migration and economic integration between their two neighboring countries.
“I think it’s going to be a very good relationship,” Sheinbaum said.
The new relationship between the Mexican government and the U.S. Embassy comes within the first year of Sheinbaum’s time in office, as she navigates Trump’s aggressive stances on bilateral issues like trade and border security.
Johnson served as Trump’s ambassador to El Salvador during the president’s first term and is a former CIA officer.
