A child has died of measles in the Mexican state of Sonora, which borders Arizona.

The Sonoran health department says there have been more than 20 cases of measles diagnosed this year — but that the highly contagious disease hasn’t spread throughout the state.

The department says the majority of confirmed cases have been in migrant agricultural workers who came from Sonora’s neighboring state, Chihuahua.

The northern Mexican state of Chihuahua has seen a significant outbreak centered around a Mennonite community there. Confirmed cases since the start of the year soared past 1,000 this month, according to the Chihuahua health department.

Officials say the recent fatality in Sonora was an unvaccinated infant from Chihuahua who had traveled to the state with her migrant farm worker parents.
