Pima County election officials are getting ready for a special primary election this summer — where voters will decide on candidates for Congressional District 7.

Election officials say they’ve set up 58 vote sites where residents can cast their primary ballots for the far-reaching CD7 — which begins south of Phoenix, stretches across parts of Tucson and along the U.S.-Mexico border in Nogales, Yuma and parts of Douglas.

The seat has been vacant since March — when long-time southern Arizona Democrat Raúl Grijalva passed away after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

The special primary election will be held on July 15 and voters will choose between three Republican candidates and five Democrats. The winners will appear on the ballot for the special general election in September.
