A major runway rehabilitation project is coming to the Grand Canyon National Park Airport this summer. Here's what travelers and residents can expect.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual public meeting Thursday to share details about the $13 million project.

Scheduled to begin in mid-July, the project will shut down the airport’s runway for 28 days. ADOT officials and project engineers will explain how the upgrades will improve safety and efficiency.

Crews will mill and repave the runway, reconfigure three taxiways, update airport signage and make modifications to aircraft parking areas.

Nightly closures start June 15 to prepare for the full shutdown, which begins mid-July and runs through early August. The project is funded by a federal grant and state matching dollars.
