Rescue crews have rescued more than a dozen people over a week’s period in Grand Canyon National Park, prompting officials to warn hikers of the dangers at this time of year in the canyon.
In this dramatic video, a rescuer and a patient can be seen astride a platform tied to a hovering helicopter. That was last Sunday and comes at a time when search and rescue crews hauled 13 people out of the Grand Canyon in just seven days.
Officials said in this case, poor physical conditioning and heat were believed to be contributing factors. They also warn that the canyon’s micro-climates could catch unsuspecting hikers by surprise.
Phantom Ranch within the Grand Canyon is expected to reach the 90s next week.
Meanwhile, parts of the area are under a flood watch this week.
