The U.S. Treasury Department is sanctioning a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel and putting an award on information about its two leaders.

The sanctions are on Los Chapitos, the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel controlled by the sons of the now-jailed Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Two of the notorious cartel leader’s sons remain at large. In addition to the sanctions, the Treasury Department is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to their arrest or conviction.

The Treasury Department also sanctioned businesses based in Mazatlán, Sinaloa that they accuse of working with Los Chapitos.

The Trump administration in February designated the Sinaloa Cartel as a foreign terrorist organization. The designation gives officials more power to prosecute people suspected of supporting that organization financially.
