The Mexican state of Sonora is recording more and more heat-related illnesses, as temperatures rise in the desert region south of Arizona.
Highs in Hermosillo are expected to near 110 degrees Fahrenheit this week, after a weekend of excessive heat in the Sonoran capital.
National data shows Sonora logged nine additional heat-related illnesses last week, bringing the total number for the year up to 47. Heat-related illnesses include heat stroke and dehydration.
That data also shows two heat stroke deaths in Sonora this year.
Sonora has for weeks been in the top 10 Mexican states for heat-related illnesses. The most recent round of numbers ended on Friday, so it doesn't account for possible heat-related illnesses that happened over the weekend in Sonora, when temperatures soared.
