Red flag extreme heat warnings issued in northern Arizona

A “Victor Vomit” sign warns hikers of the dangers of heat illness on the upper Bright Angel Trail at Grand Canyon National Park.

Extreme heat warnings are also proliferating through northern Arizona.

It won’t take much for even a small fire to grow out of control. As a result a red flag warning was issued for areas of the Navajo Nation as temperatures and wind speeds increased.

Meanwhile an extreme heat warning has gone into effect until Friday evening for the lower elevations of Grand Canyon National Park.

Officials forecast temperatures above 110 degrees within the canyon. Hikers are warned not to drop below one and a half miles on Bright Angel Trail and to be out of the canyon between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
