Next November, Arizona voters will decide whether or not to apply a state-level terrorist designation to cartels.

The Trump administration has already added several drug cartels based in Mexico to the U.S. State Department’s list of terrorist organizations, giving prosecutors a new method for targeting people they suspect of supporting the gangs.

The measure in Arizona would also require the state Department of Homeland Security to "do everything within its authority'' to address the threat posed by cartels.

Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a similar measure two years ago, saying it was up to federal authorities to designate groups as foreign terrorist organizations.
