The Coconino National Forest is proposing fee increases. How the public can weigh in

The Coconino National Forest is proposing to increase its rates for visitors and you have until Sept. 5 to comment on its plan.

Some parts of the national forest surrounding Flagstaff would see a sharp increase under the proposed plan. For example, some lookout and cabin stays that have historically been free would now cost as much as $100.

Buck Mountain Lookout is free right now and could increase to $75 for up to four people. Mormon Lake Guard Station is now free, but would cost $100 for up to eight.

Officials note that most of the forest remains free for general use.

Visit the USDA's recreation fee proposals website to add your comments and for more information.
