The city of Sedona has broken ground on its first affordable housing project.
The project consists of 30 units, including 24 one-bedroom apartments and six three-bedroom units. When it’s completed next spring, the three-story complex will boast a gym, covered parking and infrastructure for electric vehicle charging.
“We’re excited to be able to provide an opportunity for those who work here to actually be able to live here, too. They’re part of our community,” said Lauren Browne, the city’s communications director.
Qualifying residents must earn 60% or less of the area median income. Units will run between $862 for one-bedroom and the three-bedroom units will cost about $1,200 a month.
The project, called Villas on Shelby, is located at 2250 Shelby Drive on land contributed by the city, according to a recent city press release.
The city has two other sites planned for more affordable housing.
