The United States is charging a Mexican man after the killing of a Tucson driver this week.

Prosecutors say they’ve charged Julio Cesar Aguirre with attempted carjacking, use of a firearm in relation to a violent crime and as an alien in possession of a firearm. They say Aguirre shot and killed a male driver with a handgun while attempting to carjack the victim last Monday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says police were called after a man matching Aguirre’s description entered their property and threatened them with a gun before running away. They said Aguirre had been arrested more than 10 times between 2007 and 2013 on immigration related charges and had been removed from the U.S. in 2013 by court order.

The case is being prosecuted under the so-called Take Back America Initiative, a Trump administration program focused on illegal immigration, transnational criminal organizations and drug cartels.

According to KOLD News, Aguirre is also facing local murder charges.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This headline has been updated to correct that Aguirre was only removed from the U.S. once.
