Sonora has recorded the second highest number of heat illnesses of all of Mexico’s states in the first half of 2025.
Sonora recorded 88 total cases of heat illness, including dehydration and heat stroke.
That number was second only to the number of heat illness cases in the Mexican state of Tabasco, which has recorded more than 100 heat illnesses so far this year.
Sonora also recorded the second highest number of heat deaths this year. Sonora has reported five total deaths from heat stroke in 2025.
Temperatures in the capital Hermosillo dipped a bit recently, and the state saw some of the season’s first rainfall. But temperatures soared well past 100 degrees Fahrenheit in early July and late June.
