The US Forest Service is looking for volunteers to help plant tens of thousands of trees in mountains surrounding Flagstaff that were ravaged by fire.
The Coconino National Forest is recruiting people to help with planting trees in the San Francisco Peaks in August. About 3,000 acres of planted trees that were only put in the ground since a 2010 fire were destroyed in 2022’s Tunnel and Pipeline fires.
Now officials want to put some 40,000 native ponderosas across 200 acres of National Forest land.
A volunteer event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9. Contact: Wade Gibson at [email protected].
