Tucson gets $4.8 million from lawsuit for PFAS contamination

Tucson has received $4.8 million to continue its ongoing treatment of forever chemicals in the city’s groundwater.

The funds come from a 2018 liability lawsuit filed against the manufacturers of Aqueous Film Forming Foam, firefighting chemicals containing PFAS, per- and polyfluoroakyl substances, which are known to cause cancer.

Tucson City Manager Tim Thomure said the money will be used to recover taxpayer funds that have been used to manage PFAS as well as for infrastructure that has been affected.
