Pima County officials warn businesses of invoice scam impersonating county personnel

Pima County officials are warning the public to watch out for a scam involving fake invoices supposedly from the county.

Officials say over the last few weeks, small businesses have received fake invoices that include a real Pima County logo, sometimes reference real county employees, and look like they’re from legitimate email addresses.

County officials say Pima County Development Services — the agency that handles fees and issues permits — only sends out payment requests through its portal. It doesn’t ask for wire transfers or fee settlements, and payments can only be made through the portal, by mail or in person.

Members of the public are advised to look out for misspelled words, slightly off email addresses and other errors common in the scam.
