Money to settle lawsuits over drinking water contamination is flowing to Arizona cities. Peoria is the most recent to get a payment from the settlement with chemical manufacturer 3M.
PFAS are human-made chemicals that can lead to decreased fertility, different types of cancer and weakened immune systems.
Peoria officials say the city has received the first of what will be roughly $2 million in settlement money from the company 3M. Two city wells are offline after having tested above federal limits for PFAS.
Farther north in Prescott, officials shut down one well over PFAS contamination. The city expects to receive about $3 million from 3M.
Prescott and Peoria also expect to receive lawsuit settlement money from other companies that make PFAS.
