The state of Sonora tops the list of Mexican states for most deaths due to heat this year as temperatures soar.
Sonora has reported 177 cases of heat injury so far this year, beating out the Mexican state with the next highest number by 70 cases.
Sonora’s number includes 156 cases of dehydration and 21 cases of heat stroke.
Fourteen people have died in the state of Sonora since March because of heat.
Mexico’s meteorological service projects a heat wave in Sonora will stretch until Thursday. The state capital, Hermosillo, recorded the highest temperature in Mexico late last week at 47.5 degrees Celsius, which is more than 117 degrees Fahrenheit.
