A monument to the 49 children killed in the Guarderia ABC fire on June 5, 2009, was erected in Mexico City.

The former co-owner of a Sonora, Mexico, day care where 49 children died in a fire is in custody in Arizona.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson says Sandra Lucía Téllez was arrested on Jan. 15 of this year and will remain in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings. She is currently being held at the ICE detention center in Eloy, Arizona.

Téllez is a citizen of Mexico and is wanted there for homicide and negligent injury related to the 2009 fatal fire at a Hermosillo day care where she was part owner.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says she will call for Téllez to be extradited to face charges in Mexico.

Téllez is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, an international request to law enforcement to arrest someone.
