Better weather at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is giving firefighters a break as they work on the Dragon Bravo Fire, which is now 44% contained.
Meanwhile, crews are facing tougher conditions in the Tonto National Forest, where the Billy Fire has been burning since July 9.
Matthew Wilcox is a spokesperson for the team managing the Billy Fire. He says that blaze has scorched more than 15,000 acres and is 12% contained.
"So this fire is burning in some really rough and rugged terrain. It's super inaccessible for ground crews to get in there, which makes it hard to add containment," he said.
Wilcox says a few private properties have been impacted by the fire, but so far, there have been no large-scale evacuations.
He did say crews will be putting fire on the ground to help create those containment lines.
"We are going to see some growth in the coming days, just due to our own firing operations, but the good thing is that it's not an out of control fire burning. It's us putting fire on the ground where we want it, when we want it."
