The Grand Canyon has reopened portions of South Rim trails that were closed last month due to safety concerns tied to the Dragon Bravo Fire

Although the fire has been burning on the North Rim, concerns about air quality in the inner Canyon led to the closures on the South Rim.

Park officials say conditions have improved and new air quality monitors have been installed at popular hiking locations, such as Phantom Ranch and Havasupai Gardens.

The Dragon Bravo Fire has devastated the North Rim area, destroying the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and burning more than 130,000 acres. It’s the seventh-largest fire in Arizona history.

The North Rim remains closed to visitors indefinitely.
