A firefighter has died after suffering a cardiac emergency while working on continuing efforts to quell the Dragon Bravo Fire on the north side of the Grand Canyon.
The incident happened Monday near the North Rim Entrance Station. A paramedic attempted to revive him but was unsuccessful.
The Dragon Bravo Fire at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim is now the seventh largest fire in Arizona history, burning more than 130,000 acres.
The National Park Service is investigating the death with the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office.
The lightning-caused fire has been burning since July 4 and has burned 227 square miles. The historic Grand Canyon Lodge and dozens of cabins were destroyed. Arizona officials have questioned the handling of the blaze by federal officials.
It’s currently 80% contained.
