San Carlos, Sonora

In an effort to boost tourism in Sonora, the Mexican state’s governor announced new projects to improve tourist walkways near some of the state’s beaches.

Gov. Alfonso Durazo announced a more than $40 million investment into three projects near the popular Sonoran beach destination of San Carlos.

The new projects aim to grow tourism at the beaches on Sonora’s southern coast on the Gulf of California.

In San Carlos, already a popular tourist destination for families from Sonora and the U.S., the investment will create a 1.5-mile-long walkway with views of the ocean and commercial areas.

Two other nearby projects will invest in oceanfront tourist walkways in the nearby cities of Guaymas and Empalme.
