Prescribed burns are planned in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests on Friday to address overgrown vegetation in the Alpine and Springerville Ranger Districts. The operations could continue into Saturday, pending weather conditions.
Smoke will be seen throughout the region, including in the Big Lake recreation area.
Affected areas may be closed to ensure public safety. Drivers are advised to turn on headlights when encountering smoke on the road.
Further information on the prescribed fires can be found on the Apache-Sitgreaves website.
