Across Mexico, people have been taking to the streets to protest cartel violence, and what they see as corruption in the country’s government.
The biggest so-called “Gen Z protest” was in Mexico City over the weekend, where thousands of protesters of all ages converged on the city’s center.
Many in Mexico want the government to do more to stop organized crime violence, after the brazen killing of a mayor in the state of Michoacán earlier this month.
The protests are some of the first calling out Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum since she took office a little over a year ago — although she maintains overall high approval ratings.
Officials in Mexico say at least 120 people were injured in the protests, most of them police officers.
Smaller protests happened around the country on Saturday, including in the Sonoran capital of Hermosillo.
