Sonora’s governor says authorities seized millions of doses of drugs and arrested more than 150 people in the Mexican state last week, calling it a significant advancement in security in the region.
Sonora Gov. Alfonso Durazo says state and federal authorities seized more than 23 million doses of drugs in various enforcement efforts in the state last week.
Durazo says the majority of the doses seized were methamphetamine, but did not break down what other types of drugs were confiscated.
The enforcement action also included 155 arrests and the seizure of dozens of firearms.
Durazo says the crackdown was a collaboration between state authorities, as well as the Mexican Army and National Guard. Durazo is a close ally of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who has touted drug busts and arrests like these in northern Mexico during her first year in office.
