Grand Canyon National Park will implement additional water restrictions on the South Rim, and starting Saturday, several hotels in the area will limit overnight stays.
The temporary closures are due to significant waterline breaks along the 12-and-a-half mile-long pipe that supplies water from the Canyon to the park.
El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge and Delaware North’s Yavapai Lodge will halt overnight accommodations until further notice. Grand Canyon official said the park will remain open for day use, along with South Rim food and beverage services, the Grand Canyon Clinic and the post office.
Overnight hotel accommodations in the town of Tusayan will not be impacted by these changes.
Park officials said no fires will be allowed on the South Rim and inner canyon areas. This includes all outdoor wood burning and charcoal fires, including campfires, warming fires, and charcoal barbeques.
