Two months after a fire at a discount store in Hermosillo killed 24 people, residents in the capital city of Sonora, Mexico, continue to wait for justice.
The Sonoran prosecutor’s office is appealing a decision by a judge to release five detainees who were arrested as suspects in the deadly fire and explosion in Hermosillo’s busy city center in November.
Those arrested included public officials who were released after a lengthy, mostly procedural discussion at a hearing the week of Christmas. The prosecutor’s office says a total of 25 arrest warrants have been issued in relation to the fire.
Investigators say the fire was likely caused by a transformer located inside the Waldo’s discount store. The dead include six children 10 years old and under.
