U.S. representatives in border states introduce bill to bar military action in Mexico

Congressional representatives from three border states, including Arizona, have introduced a bill that would prohibit the use of federal funds for military action in Mexico.

In the wake of the U.S. military’s recent raid in Venezuela and ouster of that country’s president, President Donald Trump has suggested he would consider military action in Mexico as well.

Arizona Democratic Congressman Greg Stanton — along with Joaquin Castro of Texas and Sara Jacobs of California — has introduced a bill to “prohibit taxpayer funds from being used for an unauthorized war in Mexico.”

Trump said last week on Fox News the United States was “going to start now hitting land, with regards to the cartels” and accused drug cartels of running Mexico.

The bill would prohibit the use of funds for that kind of strike unless approved by Congress.
